Mars Retrograde


Mars, the planet of active energy, will, drive,  masculine energy and forward movement went retrograde on the 6th of December. It will be in retrograde motion until the 23rd of February 2025. So what does this mean for us?


Mars is the driving force behind all our actions and activity. So in the retrograde phase, forward movement goes into reverse. This is a time when things may seem to stall and go backwards. The active energy loses its drive and this affects our daily lives.


In terms of projects, this is a time for planning and strategy. Planet Mars encourages us towards inner activity, and the realm of the inner masculine. This is a time to look within at the reasons behind your actions, the inner impetus and the spirit that drives you. It is not a time for starting new things. Existing projects can take an introspective deep dive during this period.


On a personal level, is a great time to go on an inner quest, using resources such as journalling, therapy or spiritual coaching to look within and find answers. The drive for inner healing can yield powerful results


As we are beginning the Mars retrograde phase during Mercury retrograde, between now and 15th December, this is a time to put on the brakes and look within. Take some time to rest and recharge. Looking back at past initiatives, past courses of action and where they have led to is fruitful at this time.


Mars turned retrograde in the sign of Leo, which is all about vibrant self expression. Mars in Leo is the bold, charismatic masculine. In this sign Mars is known for being passionate and dramatic. In retrograde phase, we turn to the inner qualities of Leo, which are all about tuning in to the heart and finding inner authenticity. The truth of your heart and soul is what should guide your actions; rather than a need for outer acceptance and approval.


Mars will retrograde back into the sign of Cancer on 6th January, and the collective masculine enters the sensitive emotional realms. While Mars is retrograde, this will be an even deeper dive into areas of masculine wounding for men and women. We will be called to honour and address our inner sensitivity and receptivity; and how to actively nurture and care for self and others. Mars retrograde in Cancer will cause you to look at the home and family, whether the situation is one you are happy with, and what you can do to change it.


During Mars retrograde certain events may seem to go backwards. Wars and battles may undergo reversals; and conflicts may turn around completely. This is a good time to address existing conflicts with people in a new way and work to find solutions. While Mars is retrograde in Leo this time is all about getting back to the truth of the heart, and remembering that Love will overcome all conflicts and obstacles.


During this period the masculine energy is in retreat, and it is an ideal time for the healing of the inner masculine for men and women. Also at this time Venus is completing her ascent as the goddess Inanna, and the feminine energy is rising until February when she reaches the Crown chakra gate. The divine masculine is healing his wounds while the divine feminine is rising and ascending.


This is an excellent time for healing any issues with men in your life and any wounds stemming from the toxic masculine. Discussions and negotiations can be fruitful in terms of arriving at peaceful solutions.


So all in all Mars retrograde is a time for introspection, soul searching; and planning new strategies for the spring. It is not a time to do too much but to reflect on the source of your actions, how you can get back to the truth of your heart, heal core wounding, and move forward refreshed and renewed .
